Outdoor furniture purchase #1

After everyone left today (see previous post) Jayne and I went for a lazy drive to Portarlington for a browse through the Coastal Traders second hand shop and a quick coffee at The Ol’ Duke. On the way back we spotted some simple benches at a place in Moolap - they were just what we’ve been after for the garden.

They’re pretty rough at the moment - I got a handful of splinters putting them in the car - but once we’ve sanded them back they’ll be great.

They’re nice and simple, almost Japanese in their style and form. They’re recycled timber from what looks like an old pier or something. We bought two and they look so good we’ll go back next week for the last two if they’re still there.

We still need a table and chairs but I think we’ve decided to make one out of railway sleepers. Might be a bit ambitious but if you don’t aim high you stay low.

glad you had such a good weekend. The benches look great - they’d be pretty heavy to lift I imagine - they fit in well on your deck. You always seem to make good finds when it comes to furniture etc.
we were facinated to read about Max - we didn’t know the names or his good pedigree - not that we’re really dog people as you know, but we’ve come to appreciate Max, Lani and Jack. I guess Simon and Bek will get their own in due course as Bek has had dogs at home and Simon has wanted one for ages. Did you read Kates parody (Lani and Max)? Very witty. I’d never seen the picture of Lani in the pink tulle before. She doesn’t dress up when we visit. Maybe she only does that for true doggy people? Have a good week.

I’m not helping you move an outdoor dining table made of railway sleepers! i think you should just build it where it will live, FOREVER.

    Just don’t “Linseed Oil” them!

Also, will your decking hold the weight of 4 of those benches, a table made of railway sleepers and 6 adults?

Rob - We’ve hired six AFL players to lie under the deck for extra support over summer. Helps with their strength conditioning in the off-season.

Sim - Hmmm … hadn’t got that far, to be honest. I suppose it might weigh a bit.

Mum - Yes, the pedigree names are ridiculous and Kate did well with her parody. The breeders take themselves far too seriously in my opinion.
