We caught a fish!

Had a great morning’s fishing on Corio Bay today. We launched at Limeburner’s Point boat ramp then sped towards Clifton Springs and anchored just outside the channel.

After around 15 minutes of nothing but sunshine and great views (i.e. no bites) I got up to pour us each a coffee - and my rod bent right over. A bite! I was chuffed. Didn’t care that whatever it was had had a good munch on the squid and nicked off - I was just happy to get a solid bite.

Then Jayne’s rod went too, and although she thought she’d missed it, when she started to bring the line in to check her bait she realised the fish was still on. She carefully reeled it in and lifted it into the boat - our first fish in ages.

It is/was a flathead and was big enough to keep, so we brought it home and it’s now sitting in our fridge waiting to be barbequed as an entree tonight. I’m sure it’ll be TASTY.

Didn’t catch anything else but had heaps of bites and it was just beautiful out there. The photos show how calm and sunny it was.

We’re looking forward to the next time already.

Congratulations to Jayne! First she can start the boat when Marty can’t, now she’s caught the first fish! Looks like you’ve got some catching up to make, Marty lol

Hey Marty and Jayne, congrats on the first fish. It doesn’t look legal from the photo but I’ll take your word for it. The challenge is to catch something other than a flathead. As you know we’ve been fishing off Portarlington for years and flathead is the only thing we can catch. Might relate to the fishermen rather than what’s in the bay though. If you keep catching lots of fish, Tasty will pay for herself. I think flatties are about $12-15 a kilo at the supermarket so do the sums to see how many more you need to be infront.
