We’ve been thinking about this for a while. We named the new boat Tasty almost as soon as we got it, but after owning her for a while the name isn’t really sticking for us. We haven’t had the name painted on the side yet and to be honest I can’t imagine it there. Maybe we were too hasty naming her Tasty.
So we’ve spent a few days coming up with a shortlist and I think we’ll put it to the vote this weekend with John, Bec, Damian, Kate and Iao up at Mulwala.
There’s one name on the shortlist that’s made Jayne and I laugh heaps tonight but I won’t say what it is.
Whatever we decide on we’ll have an unnaming ceremony and a proper naming one - and then it’ll be set in stone (or paint, at least, when we paint it on).
Well after a four week wait I finally picked up Tasty’s new trailer yesterday. The boat shop originally said 4-6 weeks so I’m pretty happy it was the four and not the six. This morning I “borrowed” Dad and we headed down to the boat ramp near Eastern Gardens to swap things over.
First I towed the new trailer to the ramp with Dad following, then while Dad stayed at the ramp to stand guard I went home again to fetch Tasty and the old trailer. As soon as I returned we launched, I drove around to where we’d parked the new trailer, hooked it up to the car, then we retrieved. Tasty rolled onto the new trailer smoothly but all the rollers needed slight adjustment so that she would sit down on them properly (we knew they would), so we parked up in the car park and set to adjusting them.
It took us around an hour or so to get it right - some rollers had to move sideways, others slightly up, others slightly down. We were pretty happy with the result but having inspected things a bit more closely at home I’d like to see her slightly more horizontal: she’s leaning back just a little bit (see the last few pics) and isn’t touching the last roller. I can do that this afternoon in the driveway.
On the old trailer before we left.

Next to each other for measuring up purposes. Check out those mags!

The finished product. All shiny and new! (Shame about the dirty car)

The old trailer looks a bit sad and lonely now. Still, when you approach retirement you have to take things a bit easier. I’ll sell it and it can sit underneath a nice little lightweight tinny or something.
